Tra il 1835 e il 1838 una campagna di scavo riport\u00f2 alla luce uno dei pi\u00f9 suggestivi monumenti antichi del Lazio, un anfiteatro scavato nel tufo, opera databile all\u2019epoca romana, tra la fine del I secolo a.C. e il I d.C., nel momento di maggior floridezza dell\u2019antica citt\u00e0 di Sutri. \u00c8 a pianta ellittica quasi circolare e attorno all\u2019arena gira un corridoio a volta con ingresso dalla parte del podio, come negli anfiteatri di Capua e di Siracusa. La cavea era suddivisa in tre ordini di gradinate, queste arrivavano ad ospitare fino a novemila persone, raggiungibili grazie ad un sistema di scale e corridoi ancora oggi percorribili.
