L\u2019edificio, costituito da due chiese sovrapposte, \u00e8 costruito interamente in pietra locale ed \u00e8 caratterizzato da un\u2019incredibile architettura, tutta archi gotici e romanici, e dalla struttura aggrappata alla parete rocciosa che in qualche caso funge da quarta parete. Custodisce molti affreschi di varie scuole, dall\u2019VIII secolo fino al XVI.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">\u00c8 probabile che San Benedetto scelse Subiaco come luogo di eremitaggio per la sua natura selvaggia e primitiva, potendo cos\u00ec soddisfare il suo bisogno di penitenza e mortificazione. Secondo la leggenda, egli rimase tre anni in eremitaggio presso un anfratto del monte Taleo, ignoto a tutti, fuorch\u00e9 a Dio e al monaco Romano, che dall\u2019orlo della roccia sovrastante, mediante una lunga corda, mandava al Santo il cibo essenziale per la sopravvivenza.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">In seguito, nel 529 d.C., Santa Scolastica, sorella di San Benedetto, fece edificare proprio a Subiaco un monastero benedettino.
